James J. Freeland, a longtime resident of Hillsborough, began developing then Daniel Boone Country in 1965 as a recreational area for the people in Orange County and is still owned by the Freeland family today. The Shops at Daniel Boone are the most unique tourist attraction of Historic Hillsborough and there is something for the young and old alike.
